Martin, 12, is a middle-school boy in danger equally at school
from bullies and at home from Davis, his mother’s abusive
boyfriend. Daphne, Martin’s one friend is also targeted by
lunchroom bullies. Life holds little hope for the two until a
Pooka, an Irish shape-shifting spirit appears to Martin. The
Pooka seems to be a good friend at first, capable of bullying
the bullies and reeking havoc on Davis. But whether the Pooka
will lead to a happier life for Martin and Daphne or do them
harm leads to the play’s terrifying last scene.
