Newton, NJ…Tri-State Actors Theater will bring two events to the stage of The Performing Arts Center at Sussex County Community College, Newton as part of the 2012 New Jersey statewide Stages Festival on March 3 and March 10. Admission to both programs is by donation
If you ever wondered the “how” of a stage slap or punch, Tri-State’s Stage Combat Workshop will answer your questions. Tri-State’s first Stages Festival event, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, on Saturday,March 3, is for ages 12 and over. The class, led by Jacqueline Holloway, a member of both the Society of American Fight Directors and Fight Directors Canada, and Oliver Donahue, is an introduction to stage combat with emphasis on safety. Holloway and Donahue will start the workshop with a brief discussion about what stage combat is, followed by a demonstration of basic moves and a small fight. It will be a physical class, but not beyond one’s personal limits. Dress is comfortable – no jeans, shorts, skirts, or heels. This workshop is recommended for anyone interested in understanding Stage Combat, actors, stage managers and choreographers.
On Saturday, March 10, actor and comedian Scotty Watson returns to the PAC with his Comedy Improv Workshop for ages 15 and over. The class will run from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Learn Comic Improv with Watson, a master of comedy and one of the top ten Improv teachers in the nation! You’ll be creating your own sketches during this fun evening. A member of both U.S. and Canadian Equity, Scotty has written and performed for The Second City,freelances as a joke writer for television and radio and served as an alternate clown in Cirque du Soleil’s - MYSTEREin Las Vegas.
The Stages Festival is a month-long, state-wide celebration of theatre and the performing arts – a project of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance and its membership. The Stages Festival takes place every March with discounted and/or free tickets to performances, workshops and events statewide. The event provides wonderful opportunities to experience the magic of live theatre with everyone in your family – and your extended family of friends. The Stages Festival is a cosponsored project of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
